The IPAF MEWP Spotter course will enhance your knowledge of how to support operators who use access platforms.  The spotter is a specific role given to someone to observe and assist the safe manoeuvring of equipment. The training can be taken online either in the comfort of your office or home. It takes two and a half hours to complete. Once you have successfully completed the online learning, you will be qualified for a period of 5 years.

This concise and approved IPAF Powered Access Spotter training course is an essential requirement for employees and individuals who use access platforms of all types in the course of the daily duties.

A MEWP Spotter should be able to observe onsite working at height activities and provide clear and concise communications to machine operators to enable them to manouevre the MEWP safely when line of sight maybe restricted.

Completing the course will provide the learning knowledge required to provide manoeuvring support to machine operators to position the machinery safely and increase the awareness around the safe use of a MEWP in order to complete their working at height tasks without incidents or issues.

What’s more, the training is completed entirely online and takes two and a half hours.

Course Content.

  1. The responsibilities of the MEWP Spotter.
  2. Safe positioning of a Spotter including how and where to position yourself including management of exclusion zones.
  3. Learn industry recognised hand signals and voice commands, which can be essential to safe operations in situations where the operators line of sight or visibility maybe restricted.
  4. Safe powered access equipment operations.
  5. Key hazards and associated mitigation.

Who Should Attend This Course.

This course is for anyone who needs to support and assist MEWP, Boom Lift and Scissor Lift operators and help them to manouevre the machinery safely in order to carry out their work with incidents.

In addition, anyone who uses, supervisors and manages sites where MEWPs are in operation should complete this course to ensure that everyone understands the role of the Spotter, the hand signals and communications and where the Spotter should be positioned to maintain safety.

IPAF Qualifications

Upon successful completion of this IPAF Powered Access Spotter training course, an individual will have demonstrated their understanding of how to support and assist mobile elevated work platform operators to safely manoeuvre machines and carry out their tasks with incident free.

After passing the online training and the assessment at the end of the course, each successful attendee will be awarded their qualification that is valid for 5 years.
