Our centrally based Plant Hire service in Coventry serves Warwickshire and the wider West Midlands region. Our roots go back over 60 years and a little of our history is below.
The Early Days

Clements Midlands Plant Hire was originally established in 1965 as a transport company by Fred Clements. GW Deeley, a local building contractor and property developer, bought the company in 1967. The intention was to have their own in-house transport and plant supplier. Through the early 1980’s the business pivoted towards the hire of equipment to local Midlands businesses.

The acquisition of an independent tool hire company in Rugby, Alljay Tool Hire in 1990, supports growth for the new business. Alljay’s owner, John Jennings’ arrival at the re-branded Clements Alljay as Managing Director, brought extensive experience of the UK Hire industry as a founding member of the highly respected Hire Association of Europe (HAE) to the business.

In 1996, acquiring Thumb-a-Lift Ltd, an independent, Leamington Spa based Access Equipment hire company, brought Clements into the busy Mobile Aerial Work Platform (MEWP) rental market. The following years saw the business grow further and change its name to Clements Plant & Tool Hire Ltd which better represents the product portfolio.

Clements in the 2000’s

In 2007, local business man, Jim Longstaff made an offer to owners, Deeley Group, to buy the plant hire business. Under Jim’s direction, Clements thrived and grew through positive investment in innovative construction plant and high performance access platform equipment. In 2022, Clements were rewarded for providing unrivalled service and were named ‘Small Independent Hire Company of the Year by Executive Hire News magazine.

At the beginning of 2023, Heathcote Holdings acquire Clements Plant & Access Hire to join new sister companies FGS Plant and Hire Access Platforms in serving the plant industry across the south of the UK and across the midlands.

Safety Training Courses

Clements Plant & Access Hire offer a range of safety training courses at our IPAF Approved Training Centre in Coventry. Our daily powered access operator training and safety harness awareness, usage and inspection courses enhance the knowledge and awareness of how to use the equipment safely.

Additionally, we are regularly assessed by an IPAF audit team to ensure that all courses are delivered to a consistently high standard. Courses are continually updated to take account of any changes or additions to the regulations

Our Fleet

Our fleet continually evolves to ensure we meet the needs of our customers. We invest in the most energy efficient and environmentally friendly construction plant and access equipment to ensure we are doing our bit to protect the climate.

Every piece of equipment is inspected after every hire and serviced regularly to make sure that there are no operational issues on the next hire by a customer. In addition, our service team provide fast and efficient site assistance to restrict downtime in the event of an issue.

Training

We hold ourselves to the highest standard of service and back up, without doubt. To underpin this commitment, we ensure that every member of staff is appropriately trained and qualified to carry out their role professionally. Everyone within the company undergoes regular health and safety training.
