A celebrity golf day raising money to support injured paratroopers has been given a lift.
Clements Equipment Hire is backing a star-studded event which will see guests including former multi world boxing champion Ricky Hatton MBE and EastEnders actor Jake Wood club together for Support Our Paras.
The annual golf open and gala dinner organised by Coventry-based commercial property, risk and facilities management company The Wigley Group, will take place at Staverton Park De Vere, near Daventry, on Thursday, July 16.
John McDonald, who is a former Paratrooper, TV sports announcer and The Wigley Group charity ambassador, will compère the event while injured members of the Parachute Regiment will also be in attendance to share their stories.
Clements Equipment Hire is headline sponsor while additional support comes from Benross Golf and Core Physiatry, which is located in Hatton, Warwickshire.
The event, which is now in its third year, has already raised more than £26,000 for Support Our Paras, which provides welfare support to injured soldiers and their families.
Pete Burnell, facilities co-ordinator at The Wigley Group, said: “We are really pleased to have Clements on board. We recently launched a new facilities management division and partnered with the firm as it is a leading supplier of hire equipment in the area.
“We therefore felt Clements would be a really good fit as a headline sponsor for this year’s event and we are looking forward to showcasing a number of its vehicles on the day.
“With a golf open followed by a gala dinner it is an action-packed day with plenty of opportunities for people to get involved, win raffle prizes and bid for sports memorabilia.
“Last year, we exceeded expectations and raised over £14,500 and we hope to raise a similar amount this year with the support of some of the nation’s biggest sporting stars.”
Adrian Hutchinson, managing director of Clements, said it was the first time the company had supported a major fundraising event.
“The golf day will help to raise money for a really important cause. Support Our Paras does a fantastic job in supporting injured soldiers and their families across the UK and we were more than happy to pledge our support,” he said.
“We have a great relationship with The Wigley Group and are looking forward to continuing to work with the firm as its facilities management division expands.”
