Paul Dixon, Clements works manager, is celebrating after building up a 40-year career at the firm.

Paul joined Clements Equipment Hire as a HGV apprentice in 1974. He entered the industry straight from school when the company was part of Coventry-based construction firm Deeley, and was eager to learn more about the plant hire side of the business.

The 56-year-old has since worked in a number of positions at the company including as a HGV mechanic, plant fitter and mobile service engineer. He is also a qualified HGV driver and PAL certified machine operator.

His current position as works manager means he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop as well as helping to train the young apprentices.

In celebration of his 40 year service, he was presented with a commemorative plaque, an engraved hip flask and a fountain pen. He also received tickets to an all- inclusive weekend break to Jersey as well as £400 spending money – £10 for every year served.

Paul said: “When I first joined the company as a HGV apprentice I was interested in learning more about the plant side of the business and the mechanics involved.

“I definitely didn’t expect to be working at Clements 40-years later but I have really enjoyed my time here.

“It is not boring by any means. There is always something different and new to do and I have really enjoyed how varied the work at the firm has been.

“We have a great team here and I am proud to have been part of the company’s progression over the last few years, particularly through the recent economic downturn.

“I am definitely not looking to leave any time soon and hope to enjoy many more years here in the future.”

Jim Longstaff, managing director, added: “Paul has worked his entire career with the company and this is something that we are extremely proud of.

“Paul has worked in a number of positions and has therefore built-up a wealth of knowledge and experience which he is more than happy to pass on when coaching the younger team members.

“He has also witnessed a number of big changes within in the business including a change in ownership to myself and John Jennings and to have achieved 40 years’ service with one firm is magnificent.

“He always has a smile on his face and is a valued member of our senior management team. We hope he will be with us to achieve 50 years with the company too.”
